Domain Settings

This section covers the global options that apply to all domains managed by the HostMyServers module in WHMCS: default nameservers, lock behaviour, WHOIS privacy, etc.

Accessing the Settings

From the WHMCS administration:

SetupSystemRegistrar ModulesHostMyServersConfigure

Default Nameservers

Define the nameservers that will be automatically assigned when registering a new domain. These nameservers are used if the client does not specify their own during the order.

FieldExample
Nameserver 1ns1.feelb.net
Nameserver 2ns2.feelb.net
Nameserver 3ns3.feelb.net
Nameserver 4ns4.feelb.net
Nameserver 5(optional)
Your infrastructure nameservers

If you manage your own DNS servers, enter your own nameservers here.

Domain Locking (Transfer Lock)

Transfer locking prevents the unauthorised transfer of a domain to another registrar.

Enable lock at registration

Recommended: Yes

When this setting is enabled, every newly registered domain is automatically locked. The client can unlock their domain manually from their WHMCS client area if needed.

Allow client to manage the lock

Recommended: Yes

Displays a button in the client area to enable/disable the transfer lock. If this option is disabled, only the administrator can change the lock status from the WHMCS back office.

WHOIS Privacy (Privacy Protection)

WHOIS protection hides the holder's personal information in the public WHOIS database.

Default behaviour by client type

Client typeWHOIS protection
IndividualAutomatically enabled at registration
BusinessDisabled by default — activation possible on request

For individual clients, no action is required: protection is applied by default at each domain registration.

For business clients who wish to benefit from WHOIS protection, the request must be addressed to support. Once granted, protection can be enabled on the relevant domain(s) from the WHMCS back office:

Clients → client → Domains tab → domain → Enable WHOIS Protection

Availability by TLD

WHOIS protection is not available for all TLDs. GDPR already imposes restrictions on WHOIS data for European TLDs (.fr, .eu, .de…). For these extensions, personal data is automatically hidden, regardless of this setting.

Grace Period and Redemption

Grace period after expiry

Duration (in days) during which an expired domain can be renewed without additional fees. This value is informational in WHMCS; it depends on the policy of each TLD registry.

Typical values are:

  • .com, .net, .org: 30-day grace period
  • .fr: 30-day grace period
  • New TLDs: variable (consult the registry documentation)

Redemption period

After the grace period, some domains enter a redemption period (generally 30 days). Restoration from this period is possible for an additional fee. Configure the restore price in extension management.

Domain Synchronisation

Synchronise expiry dates

Recommended: Enabled

When enabled, the WHMCS synchronisation cron task compares the expiry dates recorded in WHMCS with those returned by the HostMyServers API. In case of discrepancy, WHMCS is automatically updated.

This is particularly useful if operations have been performed directly via the HostMyServers client area (manual renewals, modifications).

Synchronise statuses

Recommended: Enabled

Updates domain statuses in WHMCS (Active, Expired, Suspended, Transfer in Progress, etc.) based on the actual state at HostMyServers.

Default WHOIS Contacts

You can define default WHOIS contacts that will be used at registration if the client does not fill in their information. This option is particularly useful if you register domains on behalf of B2B clients.

Personal data

Make sure to use the actual data of the domain holder. Using incorrect or fictitious data in the WHOIS is contrary to registry terms of use and may result in the domain being suspended or deleted.
